Our company commissioned relevant departments to test the L-HL lubricant; the standard requirement for the viscosity index was not less than 95, while the actual test result was 74, which classified it as unqualified. However, the lubricant company provided the following explanation: According to **standard GB1118.1-94, for L-HL and L-HM hydraulic oils produced from non-paraffin-based crude oil, the viscosity index must be at least 70 upon leaving the factory; for oils of various quality grades produced from paraffin-based crude oil, the viscosity index must be at least 95 upon leaving the factory. Is there such a saying? Is L-HL hydraulic oil produced from non-paraffin-based crude oil? ?
GB1118.1-94 states clearly that this product is based on refined mineral oil, to which various functional additives such as anti-wear and anti-oxidant agents as well as rust inhibitors are added; it possesses excellent properties including extreme pressure and anti-wear performance, viscosity-temperature stability, rust resistance, antifoaming ability, oxidation stability, and anti-emulsification properties. This shows that this standard is intended for mineral oils, and therefore not applicable to chemically synthesized ones. So what the merchants say is unfounded. A viscosity index of less than 95 indicates that it is a non-standard product.

The sticky fingers index refers to the product itself, and it has nothing to do with the base materials used. It can’t be said that product standards can be lowered just because of the raw materials
