What is the difference between paint and coatings?
Coatings are a general term for substances that can be applied to the surface of objects to form a durable film, serving protective and decorative purposes; paint is one type of coating. The paint referred to these days usually denotes enamel, acrylic, and fluorocarbon paints that are thinned using oily solvents such as turpentine and linseed oil, while coatings generally refer to UV, water-based, and architectural latex types.
**In the basic terms of the vocabulary standard for colored paints and varnishes, Standard (GB 5206.1) defines coatings as a general term for liquid or solid materials that are applied to the surface of objects to form a solid coating layer with protective, decorative, or special functions such as insulation, corrosion prevention, or marking. In the early days, plant oils were the main raw material used, which is why it was called paint. Today, synthetic resins have largely or entirely replaced vegetable oils, which is why they are called coatings. It can be seen that coatings and paints are the same thing
Personally, I think paint is a type of coating.
