Recently, the liquefied gas pump P2306 in our facility suddenly stopped delivering flow, resulting in damage to the pump. The phenomenon is as follows: first, the cold reflux flow rate of stabilizer T2304 suddenly drops to 0 T/h; subsequently, the top temperature of T2304 rises rapidly, the pressure in V2303 drops quickly, and the liquid level rises rapidly. Based on what you’ve described, I think it should first be the pump that gets damaged, causing the volume to reset to zero, and then issues such as increased pressure and temperature arise.
What could cause the pump’s flow rate to suddenly drop to 0? I’m afraid it’s still the operating conditions of the pump that have changed. For a pump, a decrease in flow rate or an inability to deliver fluid can be caused by issues within the pump itself; this is usually due to clogging of the impeller or an increase in the clearance as a result of wear and tear. It’s a gradual process – unless the impeller gets damaged beyond repair, the flow rate won’t suddenly drop to zero. Especially with volatile media such as liquefied gas pumps, a drop in operating pressure can easily result in the pump being unable to deliver fluid, but this is not caused by a problem with the pump itself.

Liquefied gas vaporizes easily, which prevents the pump from pumping properly. It could also be due to problems that have accumulated over time; when the pump can no longer pump effectively, backflow stops, and as a result, the temperature and pressure become abnormal.

Conversely, it is easier for the pump to fail to achieve the required flow rate; over time, the pump will run idle, which further damages it. It’s really boring that the poster asks such a simple question! Let’s clarify the issue first! Go back and check on the DCS to find out which step was the first to have a problem! ! If there is a problem with the pump, the subsequent symptoms are obvious! If the pressure increases, the pump will not be emptied! Turn on the pump and take a look; once you find out what the problem is, everything will become clear! ! Go ask the blacksmith first! !
If the operating conditions remain unchanged, it should be the pump that develops problems first, which then leads to the subsequent phenomena! Pumps of poor quality often experience such problems!
Is v3203 a reflux tank? The pressure should be rising. Has the liquid level in the tank been checked? If there are no problems, it’s likely a problem with the pump

Is the tower top pressure controlled by a thermal bypass? If it is a thermal bypass control valve, the diameter of the thermal bypass may be too small, resulting in an overly low return temperature (below 22°C), which leads to the aforementioned phenomenon. The pump should have been fine at first; the problem arose later when it became vacuumed.
The water level is full; the liquid hydrocarbon carries water with it, causing the pump to lose its vacuum!
