The calibration of weighing instruments often depends on the manufacturer itself, who usually provides many different explanations and does not place much emphasis on calibration; this often results in last-minute rushes before starting operation

I’ve been in contact with Toledo a few times; they place quite a lot of emphasis on calibration, using a 5-point calibration method that is carried out once a year. For example, for a weighing tank with a capacity of 50 tons, use a load cell with a capacity of 10 tons to lift the load and perform calibration; after that, lower the load again. Add material until the weight reaches 10 tons, then use the load cell to lift the load once more and calibrate it at 20 tons. After calibration, lower the load again and add more material until the weight reaches 20 tons, then use the load cell to lift it once more and calibrate it at 30 tons, and so on, until calibration is complete at 50 tons!

We use weighing devices mainly in square hopper scales; typically, there are four sensors, two on each side. There is a gantry on each side as well. We employ high-precision force meters in combination with jacks, and the jacks are activated simultaneously on both sides. For example, if we want to calibrate the scale for 10 tons, then 5 tons is applied to each side (as indicated by the force meter). And so on. The force meter must be of high precision in order to serve as a standard, which is then used to calibrate our scales!
The calibration of weighing instruments is sometimes mandatory; the scales we use for liquid chlorine are all calibrated by the regulatory authorities.

There are national standard specifications for the calibration process: 500d, 1000d, 2000d, 3000d
