Due to hydrochloric acid corrosion, the tank connections and flange sealing surfaces of our chemical production equipment often experience leaks. A new storage tank is currently being designed; for the 1", 2", 4", and 6" nozzles, forgings are planned to be used. A 5.5 mm thick layer of 316L is intended to be weld-on the inner walls of the nozzles and on the flange surfaces. Is this feasible? Is the inner wall of the cladded nozzle smooth?
316L is not resistant to corrosion in dilute hydrochloric acid; graphite or lined materials should be used instead. The surfacing layer is not flat, and grinding does not make it completely smooth
316L is alkali-resistant, right? It’s best to use acid-resistant materials throughout
It must be difficult to perform surfacing welding inside these small tubes, right? Moreover, after welding on 5.5mm, the flow area becomes very small; it’s better to use a solid SS forged part in that case
It is estimated that 316L won’t work; few metals can resist corrosion from acids and alkalis. Currently, it is mainly equipment with a lining that can withstand acids and alkalis.

They are stainless steel forgings. Stainless steel is referred to in English as stainless steel, which we abbreviate as SS, while carbon steel is called carbon steel, abbreviated as CS
This surfacing can definitely be achieved.
The tube is too small; it’s better to use one made entirely of stainless steel
