Is there a requirement that all moving equipment (including pumps) must be equipped with stop buttons both on the DCS and at the local panel? Is it needed?

A safety button (or switch, pull cord) of the forced cut-off type (the circuit is definitely interrupted when the button is pressed) must be installed at the machine site to ensure that the equipment can be stopped in case of an accident. It depends on the requirements of the process engineers to decide whether to set it to no on the DCS! Large-scale equipment does not have a built-in DCS startup function; it must be started on-site.
It would be best to have control switches both on-site and on the DCS. Normally, the DCS is used to control startup, but in case of an emergency or special situation, it is necessary to shut down the system on-site; therefore, on-site control switches are essential
Important pump stop buttons should be available on the SIS and at the site. Of course, the most important thing is to consider the process requirements
They should all be available; the DCS control room has functions for starting and stopping. There are also start and stop buttons on site. If on-site control is needed, then use on-site control
It is best not to install pump start buttons on the DCS; otherwise, operators will mostly refrain from starting the pumps in person. Stop buttons should be reserved for emergency shutdown of critical pumps only.
