Since its operation began in June 2008, the exhaust gas heater in our sulfur plant has been in use for just over a year before severe leakage occurred in the tube side. In our exhaust gas heater, the heat transfer fluid on the tube side is high-temperature flue gas, while the fluid on the shell side is the exhaust gas after liquid separation, whose main components are SO2 and H2S. The shell side temperature is 130–160, while the tube side temperature is 520–320. The material used for the tube side is 12GrMoG; it was functioning normally before this shutdown, but severe leaks were detected after the plant was restarted. I would appreciate your advice
Could it be that it came into contact with water while parking????
During the shutdown, the tube side was not thoroughly purged; the residual corrosive liquid must have caused corrosion to the tube walls
During the shutdown process, we first reduce the sulfur production converter using high-temperature gas, and then blow in sulfur with SO2. Next, sulfur is removed using the gas produced after combustion. It will not be exposed to water during this period, but during this shutdown, the catalyst inside the converter was cooled down using steam due to overheating of the converter. The converter is located in front of the exhaust gas superheater, with two coolers and a liquid separation tank in between.
