Just go to the bookstore and buy a mechanic’s manual; that will solve the problem.

I did not major in instrumentation when I was in school. Read more books, get more hands-on experience, seek advice from experienced professionals, thoroughly understand the area of work that falls under your responsibility, and then communicate more with your peers. That should do it

At a slightly higher level, one should be able to select the appropriate instruments based on different situations. At an even higher level, one needs to understand control principles and be capable of designing various small-scale automatic control systems according to process requirements. If you have higher aspirations, then studying control systems is essential. The depth of study required at each stage varies as well... First, you need to figure out which instruments need to be repaired. Then, find out how these instruments work by consulting books or the internet. After that, apply that knowledge to learn how to repair them on site. This is the best way.

What I think is necessary to know for working with instruments: some knowledge of manufacturing processes, some knowledge of electrical systems, some knowledge of fitting work, some knowledge of piping, some knowledge of lifting operations, some knowledge of insulation, some knowledge of painting, some knowledge of installation, some knowledge of materials, and more knowledge specifically related to instruments.
