It is a pressure equalization process: first, compression and synthesis are carried out as preliminary steps. During synthesis, the temperature of the catalyst bed must be maintained above 210 degrees; it is essential to prevent the synthesis catalyst from overheating. To avoid a rapid drop in temperature, an start-up injector is activated to control the liquid level in the separator. An excessively high liquid level can cause the compressor to shut down, leading to damage to the compressor. On the other hand, an insufficient liquid level can result in gas leakage, which may cause overpressure in the flash tank – in mild cases this leads to the activation of the safety valve, while in severe cases it can cause a sudden increase in pressure in the flash tank and resulting explosion. Another aspect is the control of the flash tank level, which should be around 50%, in order to avoid problems related to gas crossover and liquid entrainment! ! !
