The company has a product that features a flat head; when welding it to the cylinder, full penetration cannot be achieved due to structural reasons, and it is necessary to verify the strength of the weld. Are there any standard references for this?
It seems that domestic standards cover relatively little in terms of the calculation of welding strength; rather, welding strength is ensured through the dimensions of the welded joints. LZ might consider drawing on existing experience or joint designs and dimensions. If calculations are necessary, professional institutions would be required
Just do an experiment by yourself and you’ll find out; it’s similar to experiments used for process evaluation. Weld several test pieces first using different cross-sectional areas, create the desired shapes, and then conduct tensile tests to determine the breaking load and yield strength. From that, the tensile strength can be calculated. With the same welding material, the strength remains more or less constant. I think what you want to know is the breaking load, right?

I have a formula for checking the strength of fillet welds, but it is necessary to know the allowable stress value of the welding material used, the dimensions of the weld cross-section, the degree of fusion, and the stress conditions – which makes it quite complicated and not suitable for calculating butt welds.
