What are the catalysts used in the process of gasoline desulfurization?
Gasoline desulfurization is generally achieved by removing sulfur compounds through hydrorefining.
The FCC gasoline selective hydrodesulfurization process uses a conventional hydrogenation process to treat FCC gasoline; the olefins in gasoline are easily saturated, resulting in significant loss of octane number, and the saturation of these olefins requires a large amount of hydrogen. To this end, the selective HDS process for FCC gasoline was developed, enabling FCC gasoline to achieve a high desulfurization rate with minimal loss of octane value. 1 The selective HDS process with coking pretreatment: The Petroleum Research Institute of Mitsubishi Oil in Japan found that during HDS of FCC gasoline, olefins react with the active centers of the HDS catalyst, thereby inhibiting the HDS reaction. To this end, the company developed a new process for pre-treating catalysts against coking, thereby improving the HDS selectivity of the catalysts by suppressing the adsorption of olefins on the active sites. Catalysts subjected to coking pretreatment can cause the olefins in FCC gasoline to polymerize, thereby reducing the hydrogenation activity of olefins and increasing the selectivity of HDS. The summary upstairs is really comprehensive; I’d like to add a few things: we have hydrogen-based desulfurization technology here, with feed of the entire fraction – levels of 800PPM can be reduced to below 100, and the octane number loss is less than 1.
