Our company produces solid AN sulfate as a by-product; however, since the dilute sulfuric acid used to produce this AN sulfate comes from the dilute acid utilized for drying chlorine gas in chlor-alkali production, the AN sulfate produced contains a small amount of chloride ions. I would like to ask everyone: are there any requirements regarding chloride ions in sulfuric acid AN that manufacturers using compound fertilizers need to meet, and what is the maximum allowable concentration? It would be best to have a reference.
Sulfuric acid AN is generally used in the production of sulfur-based compound fertilizers to serve as a nitrogen source; after granulation, the fertilizer has a smooth surface. However, for sulfur-based compound fertilizers, national standards set limits on chloride ions, requiring their concentration to be less than 3%. If the ion content in the sulfuric acid AN you produce exceeds these limits, it cannot be used in the manufacture of sulfur-based compound fertilizers. For the production of chlorine-based compound fertilizers, this is not a major issue. However, the newly revised national standards for compound fertilizers this year impose stricter requirements on the testing of chloride ions, stipulating that the chloride ion content must be indicated on the fertilizer packaging.
