Our flow meter in the feed section suddenly showed a reading of 2,000, even though the pressure remained unchanged. What’s going on? If it’s a problem with the flow meter, then what exactly is wrong with it?
If the volume fluctuations are significant, there could be several reasons for this: large pressure fluctuations, changes in composition, and large variations in the compressor speed (as well as fluctuations in main steam pressure and temperature). Only lastly should one consider the possibility of problems with the flow meter; I’m not sure what kind of flow meter you are using – is it a Venturi meter?
For a test medium with such a large change in volume as yours, I guess it must be a gas, right? With pressure remaining constant, as the temperature of the medium increases, its volume expands, which in turn leads to an increase in quantity.
