Operating conditions for check valves

In engineering design, under what circumstances must check valves be used? Are there any relevant standards and specifications? Thank you for the advice!
I have a gentle question: Aren’t all places that prevent backflow necessary? Does it depend on the process conditions?
It is mainly determined by the process conditions; components that require backflow prevention should be installed there. For example, such components are used at the outlet of ordinary pumps. Also, those where backflow could lead to accidents or contamination of the medium should be equipped with such devices as well

For slurry materials or those with a high solid content, we generally do not install check valves at the pump outlet; otherwise, it depends on the process requirements, with the aim of preventing the fluid from flowing back or mixing
Check valves should be installed where backflow of the medium is not allowed during operation or shutdown. Check valves should be designed and installed at the outlet of centrifugal pumps, as well as on the reflux lines and stripping lines of towers. Prevent medium backflow and accidents.
