The question might be a bit trivial, but I really hadn’t paid attention to what D stands for before It should be some kind of unit; I’m seeking advice.
The first 10D and the last 5D refer to the installation requirements for the pipe: 10 times the diameter of the pipe in front, and 5 times the diameter of the pipe at the back
It’s very simple: D represents the nominal diameter of the pipe, and it has no relation to units; assuming it is in mm, then the length calculated for the straight pipe section will also be in mm. If it is in m, the length obtained for the straight pipe section will likewise be in m. For example, for a nominal diameter of 50 mm, the straight pipe section before the orifice plate is required to be at least 500 mm long, while the straight pipe section after the orifice plate must be no less than 250 mm long.
