Some time ago, we encountered overheating points on our smoke pipes, at around 400 to 500 degrees. In some areas, the insulation material showed obvious abnormalities; the management suspects that the lining inside those pipes has come loose. Now, the maintenance team is welding a layer around those overheating areas, with steam being used to lower the temperature there. Do anyone have any good suggestions?
The main cause of overheating points on the flue gas pipes is the peeling off of the lining inside the flue. If it occurs behind the flue gate, it is possible to activate a backup unit and shut down the main unit for repairs; if it occurs in front of the flue gate, external welding can be used as a temporary solution to maintain production, with repairs carried out once operations are halted.
It’s likely that the lining has come off; a tortoise-shell mesh should be welded in the hot spots, a corundum lining applied, and then covered with steel plates. Simply welding steel plates in place won’t provide long-term support.
This problem also occurs in our installations; it usually happens at the pipeline connections, where the lining may not have been properly installed. Therefore, a protective cover is applied there – that is, a mesh screen is laid outside the pipeline, and steel plates are then attached to that mesh screen. The pipeline connections along the route that carries the flue gas from the three-spin exit tray to the chimney have been repaired many times; every time I conduct a thermal inspection in the dark and see that red ring outside, it’s indeed a bit scary ; Hot spots can also easily occur near the loose points of those two components; in such cases, an outer cover is installed (a turtle-shell mesh and steel plate are placed on the surface of the component wall at the hot spot area). This is likely related to the quality of the lining installation, and it can only be addressed when the equipment is shut down for maintenance.
