The so-called MTO refers to the production of olefins from methanol; it typically uses SAPO-34 as a catalyst and a fluidized-bed reactor, with ethylene and propylene being the main components in the gaseous products, while butylene is present in smaller amounts. The so-called MTP refers to the production of propylene from methanol; it usually employs ZSM-5 as a catalyst and a fixed-bed reactor, with propylene being the main component in the gaseous products, again with lower levels of ethylene and butylene

The gas composition of MTO products has the following characteristics: (1) There is little hydrogen and methane, which facilitates the separation of ethylene; (2) Ethylene and propylene are significantly higher than those in pyrolysis gas ; (3) The reformed components (components with carbon numbers above 5) are very scarce ; (4) Low content of alkynes ; (5) Free of H2S ; (6) The products also contain oxides such as methanol and dimethyl ether. Table 1 shows the composition of the products from the MTO reaction mixture and the naphtha cracking mixture. Component: Gas from tubular cracking furnace; Gas from MTO process (mole fraction)/% (mole fraction)/% H2: 14.13 1.72; N2: 0.00 0.72; O2: 0.00 0.01; CO: 0.18 0.85; CO2: 0.05 0.38; H2S: 0.03 0.00; CH4: 23.68 8.09; C2H2: 0.45 0.00; C2H6: 6.41 1.64; C2H4: 31.69 51.10; C3H8: 0.23 2.06; C3H6: 9.44 20.91; C3H4: 0.46 0.00; C4: 2.32 4.49; C5+: 10.93 8.03. Note: The data on the composition of the cracking gas are on a dry basis and do not include water vapor ; The sampling location is at the outlet of the pyrolyzer. The product distribution of alcohol-based propylene (MTP) has the following characteristics: (1) The main product is propylene, with a mass fraction of over 70% ; (2) Due to the use of a fixed-bed reactor, there is very little N2, O2, and NOx in the reaction mixture ; (3) Higher DME ; (4) High content of reconstituted components.
