For small and medium-sized nitrogen fertilizer plants, the alternative technologies to copper washing are alcohol alkylation and alcohol hydrocarbylation – which one is more energy-efficient? They each have their own characteristics; I would appreciate advice from fellow sailors.
I believe that alcohol alkylation and alcohol hydrocarbonation are merely conceptual issues; given the small scale of small factories, the amount of alkanes and alcohols produced does not necessarily yield significant benefits. It is better to use the methanation process, as it has a simple workflow. The methane generated can be fed into the ammonia synthesis system, and hydrogen can be recovered from the off-gases for use as fuel.
An analysis from the perspective of energy utilization is possible, but from the perspective of resource utilization, cryogenic methods might be better.

Both alcohol alkylation and alcohol hydrocarbylation are relatively economical, with alcohol hydrocarbylation offering better performance. The methanation process flow mentioned on the second floor is the least desirable (except for natural gas conversion, coke oven gas conversion, and water coal slurry gasification processes, as there is an excess of heat and steam under these conditions).
Personally, I think alcohol alkylation is better than alcohol alkanation. In any case, an increase in the methane content in the raw gas used for ammonia synthesis means that whatever measures are taken to deal with it, they will increase the costs associated with its treatment and production.
