I looked up some information, including MSDS data, and couldn’t see any differences; they seem very similar to me, but I’m not sure what the fundamental difference is – or if they are actually the same thing ? Please ask a professional for guidance. .

Ethylene glycol methyl ether and ethylene glycol monomethyl ether are different names for the same substance. Ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, or glycol monomethyl ether; national standard code 33569; CAS number 109-86-4; molecular formula C3H8O2; CH3OCH2CH2OH; molecular weight 76.09. It is a colorless liquid with a slight odor; vapor pressure of 0.83 kPa at 20°C; flash point of 39°C; melting point of -86.5°C; boiling point of 124.5°C. Solubility: soluble in water, as well as in alcohols and hydrocarbons. Density: relative density (water=1) 0.97; relative density (air=1) 2.62. Stability: stable. Hazard symbols: 7 (flammable liquid), 14 (toxic substance). Main use: used as a solvent. Ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, GDME, is a diether structure formed by the condensation of ethylene glycol with two molecules of methanol. The information I’ve seen is different, but their chemical properties are similar; therefore, in practical use we refer to them collectively. Let’s go by the CAS number
