I majored in environmental science, but I didn’t take the course *‘Principles of Chemical Engineering’* during my studies. Now that I’m working, my department has asked me to teach substitute courses, either ‘Principles of Chemical Engineering’ or ‘Coal Chemical Engineering Processes’. Please give me some advice – which one should I choose?
It depends on what you are good at. For principles of chemical engineering, a solid foundation in physical chemistry, advanced mathematics, and mechanics is required; the process aspects can generally be followed as outlined in the textbooks. Of course, having practical experience will help you explain things better

Coal chemical engineering is a course that is closely linked to practical applications, and if you lack such experience, I suggest it would be better for you to teach Principles of Chemical Engineering instead.
Coal chemical industry is relatively easier

It seems the poster is a new teacher, in the same field as me; welcome to you here. I have been teaching Organic Chemistry for nearly 10 years; if you didn’t study it in your undergraduate studies, then you shouldn’t consider taking this course – it’s impossible to explain the concepts clearly to students! This course isn’t actually that difficult (but without having studied it, not even a genius can teach it well), yet it’s extremely important! From the perspective of your personal development, it’s better to have a solid foundation first; I suggest that you study on your own or attend classes taught by other teachers for a year before considering teaching this course. If you have any other questions, feel free to discuss them with me.
In the case of the original poster, if they have not studied chemical engineering principles before and have a weak foundation, it is better to choose Coal Chemical Engineering Technology.
If one has not studied Chemical Engineering Principles, it is better to teach Coal Chemical Engineering Processes. In my opinion, to become an excellent teacher of these principles, one needs a solid foundation in chemical engineering knowledge as well as extensive teaching experience. However, those studying Environmental Engineering should learn Chemical Engineering Principles; at least that’s the case in our school

I studied environmental science in my undergraduate studies and didn’t take this course; in graduate school, I was lazy and didn’t take it either. Thank you all for your replies. I’ll try not to take this course for now and aim to study it on my own during the summer vacation! :victory:
