Is the engineer’s permission or the highest-level password for the DCS system in everyone’s company known only by 1 or 2 people, or is it known by many people? I don’t think it’s realistic for only 1 or 2 people to have access to this information. In our factory, there are many simple tasks, such as restarting computers, adjusting measurement ranges, or changing alarm settings and sounds. If only the DCS engineer knows these things, then he would have to live on site. According to the company’s rules, passwords should be kept only by the DCS engineer and the head of the DCS maintenance team. I’m not sure how it is in other places
Everyone involved in DCS maintenance at our factory knows the password, including the department head, technicians, and members of the DCS team – there are roughly over a dozen people in total. Generally, routine maintenance tasks are handled by the members of the DCS team.
The technical managers, team leaders, and key staff here all know about it!
The admin rights are theoretically only known to system administrators. Operations are not allowed here. We don’t have many instrument maintenance personnel – around 7 or 8 – and almost everyone knows the password. When driving regularly on a consistent basis, there is basically no need to modify any settings. Regarding the issue of restarting the computer, it can be set so that the monitoring software starts automatically upon boot.
We are members of the DCS team, DCS technicians – there are no more than ten of us in total! But according to the rules, aside from the DCS technicians and team leaders, no one else is allowed to modify programs; they are only permitted to carry out maintenance tasks.

We originally knew very few people, just 2 or 3, and later we realized it was really not convenient. These people can’t be in the factory all the time, so those who are familiar with the instruments know how to use them, but ordinary employees aren’t allowed to make any changes to the configurations, and the passwords must not be shared with others.
Then who will initiate it? Sometimes, those of us in the DCS team on night shifts have to restart the computer after doing several tasks
This is hard to control; if someone makes changes, can you tell who made them?
