At 7:46 on May 19, the Tarim Oilfield’s project, which features the largest modern fertilizer production capacity among China’s onshore facilities – with an annual output of 450,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 800,000 tons of urea – completed all its processing steps and began producing qualified large-grain urea. At present, the process equipment is operating smoothly and has entered the trial production phase. The Tarim Large-scale Fertilizer Project is a key construction project of China National Petroleum Corporation and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with a total investment of 2.93 billion yuan. Construction began on September 20, 2007, and the project was completed to high standards on September 28, 2009. This system utilizes the most advanced process technologies available both domestically and internationally; some of the key equipment is imported from abroad, and its energy consumption, material usage, and environmental performance metrics are at the international leading level. The project construction aims to create a fertilizer plant that is \"internationally advanced and domestically first-class.\" It adheres strictly to the basic construction procedures, implements scientific management based on the \"nine key elements\" of projects, ensuring full control over safety, quality, investment, and schedule. Safety was maintained throughout more than 9 million working hours, and the quality of the constructed facilities reached 100% compliance standards. While focusing on project construction, production preparations were carried out in an orderly manner, and standardized management was promoted in line with modern enterprise management models and concepts; once the project was completed to high quality, it immediately entered the pre-commissioning phase. The entire testing process was free from repetitions, pollution, or damage, achieving the goals of \"safety, stability, sustainability, and efficiency\" as well as \"ability to operate smoothly and with stability.\" The completion and operation of this project fill the gap in the production of large-grain urea in southern Xinjiang. It is of great significance for promoting the integrated development of upstream and downstream activities in the Tarim Oil Field, implementing the strategy for transforming the region’s advantageous resources, expanding the range of fertilizer products available in Xinjiang, supporting agricultural production, and accelerating the economic and social development of southern Xinjiang. At present, the Tarim large-scale fertilizer plant has fully entered the trial production phase, with an expected production of over 400,000 tons of fertilizer by the end of this year. The introduction of large-grain urea to the market will further enhance the position of Kunlun-brand urea in the fertilizer market across the central and western regions as well as throughout the country, and it will also contribute to the development of downstream industries in the surrounding areas.

Ammonia synthesis employs TOPSOE technology, and key equipment such as compressors, synthesis towers, and waste heat exchangers are imported.
Is it TOPSOE’s isobaric synthesis technique?
The urea technology belongs to Snam, while the large particle technology is from Toyo; all the equipment is imported, so operation is not very smooth. A single set is not the largest in China; the largest one in China is in Ordos.
