**Industrial policies on the chemical industry

In terms of equipment, the methanation unit only incorporates a few pieces of imported equipment such as high-pressure steam superheaters and recycle gas compressors; the vast majority of the other equipment, such as the methanation reactors, is domestically produced, which is in line with **the policies on technology introduction and equipment procurement.  It is reported that the “National Energy Work Conference” has called for “moderate development of coal-to-natural gas”.  In May 2009, the **Petrochemical Industry Adjustment and Revitalization Plan was issued, listing coal-to-natural gas as one of the five types of demonstration projects in coal chemical industry.  On November 25, 2009, at the signing ceremony of the \"Chinese Scholars’ Initiative for the Copenhagen Climate Summit,\" Jiang Kejun, head of the Energy Systems Research Office at the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, said: \"Coal-to-natural gas is costly and its production process is not clean; it does not align with the goals of a ‘low-carbon economy’. It can serve as a technical backup, but it is not suitable for widespread use.\"
