Development and utilization of manganese slag

In the manganese industry, after the first, second, and third pressing steps, the filter residue contains manganese at levels of 6–7% for the +4 valence state and 3–5% for the +2 valence state. The manganese slag is mainly in the form of sludge with a moisture content of around 25%. Most of the manganese contained in this slag can be recovered through slurry formation; this has already been achieved in other industries within this sector (such as EMD and electrolytic metal manganese production). However, the slag (which still contains a small amount of manganese) is generally taken to a slag dump for disposal. I saw on TV that the iron slag from Liugang Steel was also sent to a slag dump for disposal, but later Tsinghua University developed a method to use it in cement production, and this approach was successfully put into practice. I wonder if there are any new ways to utilize this manganese slag.
