There are two sources of Cl2: one is liquid chlorine purchased in steel cylinders, which is sent to the hydrogen chloride synthesis process through a liquefied chlorine gasification process. Secondly, the electrolytically refined brine is used to produce caustic soda, hydrogen, and chlorine; part of the chlorine gas is dried to remove water before being fed into the synthesis process. There are also two ways to obtain H2: one is to set up a separate system for producing hydrogen through pure water electrolysis; the hydrogen produced is purified before being used in synthesis, while the oxygen is generally released into the atmosphere. Second, in the case of caustic soda storage, part of it comes from the excess hydrogen generated by the electrolysis of brine. Hydrogen and chlorine burn in a synthesis furnace to produce hydrogen chloride gas.
