When are U-bolts used?

I have a question: can pipes be laid on a pipe tray without using U-bolts for fixation? Place it directly on top, naked?
It’s not good to place it directly and naked on top; for pipelines with a larger diameter, angle steel is generally used for fixation to prevent lateral displacement； For pipelines with a smaller diameter, U-bolts are generally used for fixation.
Thank you to the person above. I’m currently using a T-shaped bracket; it’s made of I-beam material, and the spacing between the U-bolts is too small, making it difficult to fix the I-beam in place
The main function of a U-bolt should be to restrict the pipe’s radial movement; if space is limited, it is possible to consider welding inverted V-shaped clamps on both sides of the pipe to hold it in place
