Choices of young people who have just graduated

This post was last edited by pypp007 on 2010-5-26 02:18. I was chatting with a friend the day before yesterday. We don’t work for long periods of time. He works as a civil engineering engineer at a construction company. Due to the nature of his work, he is away from home most of the time; not in the country, but abroad. When he first graduated and started working at the company, just over a month later, he was assigned to an overseas project (the visa process was very fast). After that, I moved on to several project teams. Among them, there was a project on which he worked continuously for 33 months, without returning to his home country for a break at all! Their company requires employees to work for 10 months before they can take time off, and it’s very likely that they won’t be able to take leave during peak construction periods. Over the past few years, he hasn’t had time to find a girlfriend, even though he’s saved some money. The path ahead is either to continue drifting abroad and, once experienced, become a civil engineering manager (though still having to drift around), or to quit my job. My buddy is also quite frustrated; it seems like his company doesn’t consider the needs of young employees. It would be great if there were a rotation system, as that could help retain many talented people. In that case, the talents cultivated are also developed for other organizations. I’m almost 30 now – what a painful choice!
Okay then. . . I can still save some money; I’ve lost both my money and my assets. I’m exhausted to the point of being worn out, and all I earn is just enough to support my family. Look at me; your buddy must feel very lucky.
A bit older. It’s easier to lean towards home. Money is no longer the most important thing. Things aren’t perfect.
There’s never enough money to make; you’d better focus on your family first
This can’t be a sustainable solution in the long run. It’s good to have such learning opportunities when one is young, but as one gets older, one has to consider their own responsibilities. Without a happy family to support one, even if one is successful in their career, there’s no one to share that success with, and true happiness cannot be achieved
Damn, it’s a tough choice. But with his advantages, it shouldn’t be hard for him to find a job in the country
After several years of effort, his English has improved a lot. But whenever the topic of starting a family comes up, he becomes worried. I think if the company continues like this, even with the experience I gain, I’ll still have to change jobs.
The purpose of working is to make a living; it’s not worth sacrificing one’s life for work. I suggest that guy either find a wife abroad or quit his job and return to his home country to build a career there.
I also joked with him about finding a wife abroad. It’s not easy at all; foreign women are basically out of the question. My buddy said that, regardless of the quality of the girls in the project department, their number is extremely limited. I often tell him to quit; he’s still young, so it’s not a long-term issue.
That’s how work is – if you want to make money, you have to invest effort and time, but it’s tough too when there’s no money... A man can’t have it all; career comes first, I guess.
Hurry up and get a leadership position – that’s what people who work on projects do. They’re all young; it’s time to stop running around at an older age.
