Only the Qilu Petrochemical Research Institute has attempted to use such catalysts. I was personally in charge of starting up 6 pre-sulfidization units – one each in Yunnan, Fujian, Shandong, and Shanxi, and two in Henan – all of which are sulfur-resistant shift systems operating at pressures below 3 MPa. Other units are probably just talking about it. Overall, CS2 is no longer used as a vulcanizing agent; however, an electric furnace is required to raise the temperature for the pre-reaction. The startup time is shorter than usual, but the activity after startup is lower. Overall, it is suitable for replenishing the catalyst rather than replacing the entire furnace. I have used those from Qilu; the overall performance is good, with little difference in activity levels. Their lifespan exceeds three years, and sulfiding them is straightforward. They are suitable for partial replacement or for quickly getting production back up and running.
