Diesel-driven centrifugal pumps, comprising the diesel engine and the centrifugal pump, are located in Zone II and require explosion protection. The diesel engine is started using compressed air, with an air compressor unit installed at a distance. The startup of the air compressor skid requires low-voltage power from the site to initiate it. There is a small generator for the low-voltage electrical systems in the facility. If a smaller generator is replaced with a larger one, would it then not be necessary to use a diesel engine to drive the pump? An electric pump would suffice. Starting the diesel engine is really troublesome; let’s all discuss it

Diesel engine drive is mainly used in emergency situations when power is out; it is frequently employed in fire suppression systems. It is not used to save electricity, and moreover its cost is likely to be much higher than that of electric motors.
Reply to 3#: The Extension Man is located in the Middle East, at a intermediate station where there is no high-voltage electricity, only low-voltage electricity. But there are also gas pipelines in the vicinity. What if it’s driven by a gas engine?
