For sulfur-based acid production, the issue of sublimated sulfur causing blockages in the system during startup and operation is indeed a very troublesome problem. The formation of sublimated sulfur is mainly due to a failure to keep up with the oxygen-sulfur ratio, which is related to instrument malfunctions. Now, let’s discuss with everyone how to use comprehensive judgment to prevent sulfur sublimation accidents. 1. The liquid sulfur flow meter suddenly increases – of course, this is the most direct indication. Regrettably, at present, the liquid sulfur flow meters used by most manufacturers are nothing more than decorative items! 2. The temperature in the sulfur incineration furnace increases ; 3. The inlet pressure of the sulfonate gun increases (except in cases of clogged nozzles). Generally, the inlet pressure of the sulfur gun and the liquid sulfur flow meter need to be monitored simultaneously! The formation of sublimated sulfur generally occurs at the beginning of operation due to improper control of sulfur spraying. It is possible to keep records of the blower speed and the sulfur purification pump speed when each device is operating normally. At the beginning of operation, the blower speed remains constant, and it is fine if the speed of the sulfur purification pump is slightly lower than normal. Furthermore, the interlock between the blower and the sulfur purification pump must be activated; otherwise, when the blower stops operating for some reason, the sulfur purification pump will continue to spray sulfur. . . . . Then it’s not just a matter of sublimating sulfur.
Additionally, atomization of sulfur using a gun is a necessary condition; the ratio of air to sulfur must be appropriate, and the sulfur must stay in the furnace for enough time so that the air and sulfur mix evenly.

This is a phase when sublimed sulfur tends to form more easily. In fact, controlling the oxygen-sulfur ratio (and thus the rate of temperature increase in the sulfur incineration furnace) relies on experience gained through production. In our 300,000-ton sulfur production facility, sulfur injection begins when the wind pressure at the furnace inlet reaches 7.5–8.5 kPa, which prevents sulfur from sublimating. 2. In a sulfuric acid production system that uses sulfur as raw material, under normal operating conditions, with a stable amount of sulfur sprayed in and an adequate oxygen supply, it is impossible for sublimed sulfur to be generated during the production process. Therefore, many manufacturers neglect the prevention of sublimation sulfur accidents. When sublimed sulfur appears in the sulfur-based acid production system, there are no significant changes in the process parameters for a long time, making it difficult to detect this issue. a) Before increasing the amount of sulfur added during production, it is essential to have a thorough understanding of the production system; one must avoid increasing the sulfur dosage blindly, and it is important to ensure that the sulfur burns completely in the furnace, resulting in a bright and clear interior of the furnace. b) When increasing the sulfur dosage, it is necessary to follow the principle of adding small amounts multiple times, with intervals between additions. Avoid using irresponsible adjustment methods that involve drastic changes all at once. c. Pay constant attention to the acidity level, as when sublimed sulfur appears in the sulfur-based acid production system, the first sign of this is the appearance of a milky white color in the acid.
As long as the fan keeps running, or in other words, as long as the furnace gas valve is not forgotten to be opened, sublimated sulfur will not occur in principle. During driving, sulfur is usually added based on the burning color of the sulfur combustion furnace, so this should not happen either. In other words, as long as you don’t doze off, keep an eye on the temperature, and implement proper cascade protection, everything will be fine.
