I would like to ask the experts: why is Shell’s oxygen pipeline design so complex, while that of Texaco is much simpler? I have a basic understanding that the valves in Shell’s oxygen system are divided into the fuel burner section, the oxygen preheating section, and the coal burner section. The design for switches and valves requires at least 40 to 50 units. Texaco’s design is very simple, featuring only a few switch valves such as upstream cut-off, downstream cut-off, venting, and root cut-off. I really don’t understand; I hope everyone can give me some advice!
Texaco is indeed much simpler and also safer. Shell’s setup is more complicated; the main reasons for this are probably 1. the presence of multiple burners, 2. an approach based on high levels of automation, and 3. safety considerations. It might also be because of the pulverized coal feed.
Shell and Texaco represent two different technologies; there are significant differences in their feeding methods and locations, reaction processes, and furnace types. As a result, the pipeline design for oxygen, which is one of the feed materials, is relatively more complex. Just as talking too much can lead to mistakes, importing too much creates more vulnerabilities; I think the main consideration here is safety.
