I saw in the factory report that the daily consumption of ethylene as a raw material is 140 T, and the amount of polyethylene produced is 120 T. There’s also a calculation of 140/120=1.16. What rate does 1.16 represent? Attached: (1) Conversion rate: The extent to which a chemical reaction proceeds is often expressed by the conversion rate, which refers to the percentage of a particular reactant that has been converted in the chemical reaction. The conversion rate is applied with respect to the reactants. If there is more than one reactant and they are not mixed in the ratio specified by the stoichiometric coefficients, it is common to use the reactant that is not in excess to calculate the conversion rate. (2) Selectivity: Selectivity refers to the proportion of the amount of raw material consumed to produce a specific desired reaction product, out of the total amount of raw material that has been converted. (3) Yield: It represents the percentage of the amount of raw material (or the amount of the desired product obtained) that serves as the target product after passing through the reactor, relative to the amount of raw material. Yield equals conversion rate multiplied by selectivity.
This is called the unit consumption, which refers to the amount of raw material required to produce one unit of product. It is widely used in production practices, and this indicator is commonly applied to polymer products. Yield = Raw material / Output
