Our toluene unit is going to be upgraded; the old dewaxing process will be replaced by a two-stage dewaxing and two-stage oil removal process. There’s also a 50 W-ton refining unit for fusel oils. I heard that we operate in normal sequence, using oils from the fourth and fifth grades, while another set of toluene dewaxing and oil removal units operates in reverse sequence, using oils from the second and third grades. Is there any difference between these approaches?
The overall energy consumption for producing lubricating oil in the normal sequence is relatively low. For toluene, the raw material is refined using furfural, which removes some impurities, thereby improving the quality of the raw material.
