Generally, when purchasing a pump, the manufacturer will provide the net positive suction head, but I don’t understand how to determine its installation height in the case of a self-priming centrifugal pump
Self-priming centrifugal pumps have a specific self-priming height requirement; they can operate properly within this range, otherwise cavitation will occur. The NPSH value represents the maximum suction height that a pump can achieve. When purchasing a pump, it is important to know this suction height value, and during installation, it is necessary to ensure that the centerline of the pump’s inlet is below its maximum suction height.
The general installation height should be slightly lower than the self-priming height, to allow for a safety factor.
