Advantages and disadvantages of the specialization of large-scale processes and process engineering in small and medium-sized design institutes

The large-scale process approach is the model generally adopted by smaller design firms; in this approach, the process system, processes, equipment layout, piping layout, piping materials, and so on are all categorized under the process engineering discipline. The new standard HG20519-2009, which specifies the content and level of detail required for chemical process design drawings, is aimed at small and medium-sized design firms. The purpose of this standard is to recommend that such firms divide the process aspects into the various specialties mentioned above, thereby achieving greater specialization, precision, and efficiency. What are everyone’s thoughts on this?
Depending on the size of the project, it is beneficial to have a more detailed division of tasks.
Small projects actually aren’t necessary; one person can handle them all. If you divide them into 8 different specialties, it becomes impossible to allocate the man-hours properly.

For design institutes and clients: the quality of the designed products improves, but there are more designers and the design workload increases. But for designers, while their professional skills are advanced, they also become limited, which restricts further development.
