Hello everyone, I have a small suggestion: I propose that we rename our polysilicon technology exchange area to the Silicon Chemical Technology Exchange Area. This new name is more comprehensive and better reflects an inclusive attitude. Polysilicon is just one aspect of the silicon chemical industry; the 12th Five-Year Plan identifies the development of the silicone industry as a key direction for the future, along with other fields such as fluorine chemistry. I think changing the name is a good idea; it will allow more elites to gather here to help one another in learning, thereby contributing to the upgrading of China’s silicon chemical industry.
Polysilicon is better; the scope is too broad and the content too varied, lacking professionalism, which helps maintain a higher level of expertise
Silicones are a great industry; foreign companies such as Corning and Wacker have already set up factories there, so we should also pay attention to it. Polysilicon is used in photovoltaic applications, while downstream products such as silicone rubber and silicone oil derived from silicon are employed in various industries including electricity, electronics, textiles, automotive, and papermaking. It has a wider range of uses and higher expectations for development. . .
In recent years, with the development of China’s machinery industry, the machinery manufacturing sector has also made progress. However, the improvement in the level of modern manufacturing has provided opportunities for the rapid growth of the silicone industry. At present, our country has become the world’s production hub for silicone monomers as well as the largest consumer of silicone materials. In terms of development strategy, the silicone industry should develop specialized silicone materials in a targeted manner, taking into account the different market priorities and applications. Our country is a hub for the production of silicone monomers. With the first 50,000-tonne production facility coming online in 2002, the production of silicone monomers in our country reached international levels. After overcoming technical barriers, the production of silicone monomers in our country has seen rapid development. In 2006, the Ministry of Commerce imposed a 5-year anti-dumping tax on certain imported silicone products, which created opportunities for the development of silicone monomer production in China. Production of silicone monomers entered a period of rapid growth, and there was also a trend toward the shift of silicone monomer production to China on a global scale. In recent years, industries in China such as construction, electronics and electrical engineering, household chemicals, and textiles have developed rapidly, driving a sustained and strong increase in the consumption of silicone materials in the country. Statistical data show that from 2002 to 2008, the average annual growth rate of China’s consumption of silicone materials was over 30%. It is estimated that in 2015, the demand for silicone monomers in the Chinese market will exceed 2 million tons. With the commissioning of projects such as the silicone integration project by Sinopec, the supply-demand gap for silicone materials in China will gradually be closed. The downstream market for silicone materials is closely related to the prices of silicone monomers. In 2005, the prices of silicone monomers plummeted, leading to a surge in downstream consumption; from 2006 to 2007, rising monomer prices suppressed downstream consumption; since the beginning of this year, the prices of silicone monomers have experienced periods of weakness followed by strong rebounds. In the coming years, the prices of silicone monomers will tend to stabilize, while downstream consumption will grow steadily. Silicone monomers form the basis of the entire industrial chain, while high-value-added downstream silicone products constitute the core part of this chain. At present, China ranks among the top in the world in terms of silicone resources, market size, and overall industry scale. However, to become a leader in this industry, it is necessary to develop high-performance, specialized silicone materials. High-value-added downstream silicone products represent the most profitable segment of the entire industry chain, as well as the area with the highest level of technological complexity and technical barriers. It is a trend in the development of this industry that silicone manufacturers will gradually shift from focusing on raw material development to providing downstream services. Currently, the major foreign silicone manufacturers all adopt an integrated production model that ranges from raw materials to monomers and then to downstream products; the degree of further processing of the monomers themselves is over 50%, and there are tens of thousands of different downstream products. China’s silicone industry is growing rapidly, but few companies have established complete industrial chains; there is a limited variety of products, with a high proportion of low-end products. It is necessary to actively develop various downstream products to meet high-end and differentiated demands, as well as to enhance the development and introduction of application and modification technologies. High-performance, specialized silicone materials should be developed specifically for different applications in order to capture the high-end market. Only in this way can China’s silicone industry secure better opportunities for survival in a competitive market environment.
Personally, I think polysilicon is more suitable, as basically all the discussions revolve around the topic of polysilicon.
Name change is not supported. It would get too complicated if it was renamed.
Hehe, we can’t ignore another path full of flowers just because we’re familiar with one path! It’s understandable if one thinks that a wider scope leads to more diverse content! But it is also necessary to adapt to changes in the market and society; keeping up with the times is the driving force and vitality for the continuous development of the forum. If everyone doesn’t recommend a name change, then I suggest adding an organic silicon segment – what do you think?
Reply to 7# tallhill: In my opinion, a forum or section dedicated to the silicon industry should be established, with sub-categories for polysilicon, electronic-grade silicon, and silicone. If the name of the polysilicon section is changed to a Silicon Chemical Technology Exchange Area, there will be too much content and it will be too chaotic; this makes communication difficult, and it also makes it hard to find the information one wants to learn. I think it’s very necessary to establish a silicon chemicals exchange area or a silicon industry zone to provide a platform for everyone to communicate!
