A letter to myself. Dear me, from today on, live with pride for yourself; love yourself dearly, as no one else will care about you. Dear self, don’t worry too much about certain people or certain things; just let things take their course and face them with a positive attitude. The world is simply unfair – often, it is in the things we care most about that we are least valuable. Dear self, never make things difficult for yourself – things like skipping meals, crying, withdrawing from others, or feeling depressed; these are things only fools would do. Dear self, learn to be smarter – don’t keep asking people around you silly questions; it’s really boring. Dear self, if you’re unhappy, find a corner or cry under the covers; you don’t need anyone’s sympathy. You can still live a happy life after crying. Dear self, learn to control your emotions. No one owes you anything, so there’s no reason for you to lose your temper or act capriciously toward others. Dear self, you may feel disappointed, but you must not lose hope. Always believe that tomorrow is another day. Dear self, don’t rely on others all the time, and don’t expect them to be there for you right away when you need them; after all, none of us belong to anyone else. Dear self, never make promises to others lightly – a promise made is a debt owed! Dear self, in this world, there is only nothing that can be returned to, but nothing that cannot be overcome. Dear self, if others are kind to you, you should be even kinder to them in return. If they are not kind to you, you should still treat them kindly, because that means you aren’t good enough yet. Dear self, no matter how terrible reality may seem, you must stubbornly believe that this is merely a brief darkness before dawn. Dear self, don’t cling to memories. A kite with a broken string can only fly if it is let go; by releasing it, you are also releasing yourself. Dear self, there is only one you in the whole world. Even if no one understands and appreciates you, you must love yourself dearly and be your truest self. Dear self, treat well those who are by your side, for love may be temporary, but friendship lasts a lifetime. Dear self, you must find something other than love that allows you to stand firmly on the ground with your own feet. Dear self, remember to look up at the sky often, and also keep in mind to look down at your feet while doing so. Dear self, trust your intuition; don’t provoke others, and don’t let others provoke you. Dear self, never engage in any romantic relationships with others – you can’t handle it! Dear self, don’t be too modest; sometimes you need to be stronger. When you’re bullied, make sure to get back at them! But certainly do not hold grudges; let the petty opinions of others be theirs. Compassion will make you noble. Dear self, be happy, be cheerful, be strong, be warm – it has nothing to do with personality. Dear self, be confident and even a little narcissistic; remind yourself at all times that I deserve the best of everything.
One can be disappointed, but not desperate. No matter how grim the reality may seem, one must stubbornly believe that it is merely a brief darkness before dawn. One should be happy, cheerful, resilient, and warm – and this has nothing to do with personality. That’s true strength!
