Dear sea friends: I am currently preparing a bid document for a methanol pump. I would like to ask whether it is necessary to specify the structural design of the pump in the bid document Which brand of pump are you all using? What model is it? Urgently needed.
There’s no need for such detailed specifications; first outline the process conditions, performance requirements, quality standards, and scope of supply, then invite a few companies to discuss the details further. Besides, this thing should be designed by a design institute.
The design institute didn’t make any requests either; it just provided a data sheet. Is BB3 better or is BB5 better? Which one is more stable?
They are all multi-stage centrifugal pumps with double-end support; BB3 is of axial split type, while BB5 is of radial split double-shell (barrel) type. The former is sufficient, and the latter offers greater stability but at a higher cost.

To clarify the statement about 4L: today’s methanol-pump systems all use the BB3 structure. The BB5 structure is relatively outdated compared to BB3, as BB3 offers better stability (I won’t go into too many details here). The BB5 structure is suitable for media with high pressure and that are flammable or explosive, and design institutes also prefer the BB3 structure.

Type BB3 is better, as it is also easier to maintain. The tender documents should include several sections: 1. Project introduction ; 2. Pump data sheet ; 3. Scope of supply ; 4. Payment method ; 5. Quality Assurance ; 6. Request the other party to provide certain performance records ; 7. The bidder can be required to provide certain qualifications or asset certificates ; 8. If the pump and motor are purchased together, it is possible to specify certain manufacturers; components such as the pump’s seals and couplings can also have specific manufacturers designated for them ; 9. Some requirements can also be put forward for the motor.
When it comes to safety, it’s definitely BB5, no doubt about it. But for low-methanol content, I think BB3 is sufficient, unless it’s not well-made. BB3 is more convenient for maintenance than Bb5.
