Why is a cofferdam built around the air compressor? The cofferdam is 150 mm thick; there are no flammable or explosive substances inside the factory building, and the compressor is used only for compressing air
It prevents the circulating water from leaking around, which is useful during maintenance. But cofferdams are generally not used. There is drainage in the surrounding area.
Our air compressors also have enclosures, but they were added because there are other corrosive materials nearby.
I’ve never seen such a cofferdam; I guess there’s something corrosive or flammable in the area
Generally, air compressors are quite noisy, so a sound insulation cover is added. Generally, there is no need to set up cofferdams, but yours certainly have their uses. You can take a look at your process flow diagram.
The cofferdams around general chemical plant equipment are mainly used to prevent oil spills. The cofferdam around the air compressor is mainly used to prevent lubricant from leaking. It can also prevent cooling water from overflowing.
