:'(Which of these two materials, 42CrMoA and 38CrMoALA, is more suitable for use as piston rods in compressors?) Please explain the detailed reasons. Thank you
42CrMoA and 38CrMoAlA are both alloy structural steels. The material composition of 42CrMoA (A30423) is as follows: C 0.38–0.45, Si 0.17–0.37, Mn 0.50–0.80; Cr 0.90–1.20, P ≤ 0.025, S ≤ 0.025, Cu ≤ 0.25, Ni ≤ 0.3. It is primarily used to manufacture forgings with higher strength or larger cross-sectional areas compared to 35CrMo steel, such as large gears for locomotive traction, drive gears for turbochargers, engine cylinders, connecting rods under heavy load, and spring clamps and similar components. Composition of 38CrMoAlA (A33383): C 0.35~0.42, Si 0.20~0.45, Mo 0.15~0.25, Al 0.70~1.10; P ≤ 0.025, S ≤ 0.025. 38CrMoAlA is a high-grade nitrided steel, primarily used for nitrided components that require high wear resistance, high fatigue strength, and considerable strength, as well as precise dimensions after heat treatment. It is also suitable for various components subject to moderate impact loads but requiring high wear resistance, such as boring bars, grinding machine spindles, automatic lathe spindles, worms, precision screws, precision gears, high-pressure valves, valve stems, gauges, templates, molds, cylinder liners, compressor piston rods, governors in steam turbines, rotating sleeves, fixed sleeves, and various wear-resistant parts in rubber and plastic extruders.
