The sulfuric acid AN produced by our factory using the saturator method has always had an abnormal color (the mother liquor is light green), and its particles are small. We have been unable to determine the cause; does anyone know how to help us with this?
Our mother liquor is almost colorless and transparent; could it be that the iron content is too high? Could the device be severely corroded? Was it thoroughly rust-free before it was put into use?

There are impurities present, as the equipment used in the ammonium sulfide production process is mostly made of stainless steel, which means there are few corrosive substances. As long as the acidity is well controlled, there should be no problems. Based on the color you described, ferrous ions are a very likely cause. It is also possible that some of the impurities in the gas come from other processes; discarding the electrostatic precipitator, as well as during the start-up and shutdown of the desulfurization unit, can cause the mother liquor to change color. When the HPF method is used for desulfurization, iron and cobalt-containing substances in the catalyst can easily be carried away by the gas along with the liquid droplets, and since the catalyst is very blue in color, it is possible that a small amount of it may end up mixed into the mother liquor. The crystalline particles are too small, and the ammonium sulfate also tends to take on color. The crystallization process can be controlled, and it is difficult for the acidity to become too high; the crystals can be removed once they have grown a bit larger. We have tried to change the color of the mother liquor by adjusting the amount of acid added; sometimes this approach is effective in the short term, but over time the effect on the mother liquor becomes less noticeable.
The mother liquor is light green; this may be due to liquid carried over from the gas after passing through the desulfurization system, or it may be caused by the formation of ferrous ions.
