Investigation on the slurry leakage issue caused by T-bolts in the coal mill cylinder of the water-coal slurry gasification unit? We use rod mills produced by Jiangyin Yate. After operating for over a month, problems arose with the T-bolts of the cylinder breaking and causing leakage of slurry; once leakage occurred, the machine had to be stopped to replace the bolts, which was quite troublesome – sometimes the machine had to be stopped four or five times a day. I wonder if your company has encountered such a situation? How was it handled? The problem has now been resolved; we’re discussing with everyone whether there are better solutions
Actually, there’s no need to replace the bolts every time; try tightening them first. If that doesn’t work, replace the gasket, and if that still doesn’t solve the problem, just add another gasket inside. That’s how we resolve such issues. However, leakage from the cylinder is a common problem with rod mills; we tighten the bolts once a week or so these days. It seems that Art’s products tend to develop condensation quite easily. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it has something to do with the angle between the bolts and the cylinder body.
Only replace them with bolts of a higher grade. The material of the bolts should be improved. From commodity grade to something similar to 30CrMo – I don’t know much about materials, but I know that we have made a change. It still works.

Our approach is to replace the originally welded T-bolts with directly forged ones, adding a rubber washer on both the inner and outer sides of each bolt, wrapping hemp around the outside of the bolts, and then tightening them. It is especially important to tighten the bolts thoroughly during the trial operation with clean water.
Reply to 1# wlq1970: The suggestion sounds good. The gaskets we produce now have improved manufacturing processes, allowing for double sealing on both the inner and outer sides, thus eliminating the problem of mortar leakage.
Five or six trips a day is way too much, isn’t it? We usually tighten it once a week here. If that doesn’t work, add a gasket to the inner surface of the cylinder – this is the most common method
After extensive research and exploration, we have now completely resolved the troublesome issue of slurry leakage from the mill cylinders. By installing steel lining plates inside the mill cylinders and welding them in place, we have achieved very good results; now, none of the three mills experience any slurry leakage problems anymore.
