It varies from company to company, I guess. I used to work for a German company, where each manual valve had a number; the format was ABXXX, with AB being abbreviations of German letters. It’s more convenient to write the operation procedures this way. I also worked for an American company, where none of the manual valves had numbers; it was very difficult to write programs since it was necessary to describe each valve manually. In this regard, it seems that German companies do well. So the procedures of this American company are particularly long and tedious, usually exceeding 200 pages.
All of our control valves have tag numbers. The most ridiculous thing is the numbering of manual valves; when making labels for them, there’s no place to attach them. If insulation is present, it has to be removed first, the label is attached to the flange, and then everything is covered again ； Hehe, it was done with “6S”
It definitely needs to be numbered! Easy for employees to operate and easy to maintain
