Can the welds of flat-face flanges be inspected?

First of all, do you mean that the flaw detection referred to by the original poster is limited only to radiographic testing (RT)? I believe the fillet welds at the joints of flat-face flanges are quite suitable for ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and penetrant testing (PT). According to GB150 or ASME 8-1, the welds of flat welding flanges should be classified as Class C welds. For Class C welds in pressure vessels, our company generally uses MT or PT testing methods, with the acceptance grade being Level I in most cases. There is still no definitive answer as to how to determine the location of defects when performing ultrasonic testing on Class C welds in pressure vessels, nor as to how to detect several typical types of defects. There are papers online on ultrasonic testing of related elbow joints; the original poster can take a look for themselves.

Thank you for the advice; our factory does the same thing, conducting ultrasonic testing on fillet welds. Radiographic testing is only performed on butt welds.
