The invention of stainless steel is a major achievement in the history of world metallurgy. At the beginning of the 20th century, L.B. Guillet in 1904–1906 and A.M. Portevin in 1909–1911 in France ； Between 1907 and 1909, W. Giesen discovered the corrosion resistance of Fe–Cr and Fe–Cr–Ni alloys in the UK. P. Monnartz put forward many ideas regarding the theories of rust resistance and passivation in Germany between 1908 and 1911. The inventors of industrial stainless steel include H. Brearley, who developed martensitic stainless steel containing 12%–13% Cr in the UK from 1912 to 1913 ； Between 1911 and 1914, C. Dantsizen developed ferritic stainless steels in the United States containing 14%–16% Cr and 0.07%–0.15% C ； E. Maurer and B. Strauss developed compounds containing C in Germany from 1912 to 1914
