If synthetic ammonia is produced using coal as a raw material, what are the normal amounts of raw coal and fuel coal required per ton of ammonia produced? Please actively participate in the discussion, taking into account the differences in coal quality and the current production conditions.
We use coal briquettes as raw material; the calorific value of these briquettes is around 5,000 kcal, with a consumption of 1.6–1.65 tons per ton of amino alcohol. Fuel coal consumption, based on the readings from the steam flow meters at various locations, is such that, after accounting for the steam generated by the waste heat recovery boilers, the purge gas, and the hydrogen extraction off-gases, approximately 250 kg of steam per ton of ammonia is still supplied for synthetic ammonia production.
Our gasification process uses the Texaco process; purification is achieved through low-temperature sulfur-resistant shift combined with low-temperature methanol washing and nitrogen washing. The Cassali process is employed for synthesis, with a comprehensive coal consumption of around 2.1 tons per ton of ammonia produced
Jincheng lump coal is used for intermittent gas production in a fixed-bed reactor, with a raw coal consumption of 1.2–1.3 tons per ton of synthetic ammonia produced
The coal consumption for raw material coal depends mainly on the quality of the coal: in fixed-bed reactors, Jincheng white coal with a fixed carbon content of 80% and a particle size ranging from 30 to 60% is used; large reactors with a diameter of over 3.0 meters require 1.3–1.4 tons of coal per ton of ammonia produced, while smaller reactors with a diameter of less than 2.8 meters require 1.15–1.3 tons of coal per ton of ammonia produced; Coking with a fixed carbon content of 65–75% is generally carried out in large furnaces with a diameter of over Φ3.0m, requiring 1.4–1.55 tons of coal per ton of ammonia produced ; The fixed carbon content of the lignite used in Inner Mongolia is between 65–75%, with a coal consumption of 1.45–1.6 tons per ton of ammonia produced. Of course, the coal consumption per ton of ammonia cannot be determined solely based on the gas production process; the stable operation of subsequent processes also plays a significant role. Factors such as the control of CO levels during the shift reaction, the stability of operations in the synthesis tower, the compression capacity of compressors, and any leaks or losses at the site all have a major impact. To reduce consumption, it is necessary to take all these factors into consideration. Other manufacturers may achieve lower coal consumption because of their more stable overall management practices and better on-site control.
