The first domestically produced methanol gasifier with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons, symbolizing new achievements in reviving the national industry, was recently successfully manufactured by Hangzhou Boiler Group, a subsidiary of Xizi United. At the delivery ceremony held recently, representatives from the technical support unit, Xi’an Thermal Power Research Institute, as well as leaders from the customer company, Shilin Chemical Co., Ltd. in Wushen Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, together with 150 technicians and manufacturing workers from Hangzhou Boiler Group, were all present to witness this remarkable achievement. The 4×300,000 tons/year coal-to-methanol project invested by Shilin Chemical Co., Ltd. in Wushen Banner, Ordos City, is a key project of Ordos, which is a national-level coal chemical industry base. This project uses the coal resources from the local Bayanggole mine as raw material, and employs a two-stage dry coal powder pressurized gasification furnace developed by Xi’an Thermal Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. to produce syngas; the final product, methanol, is obtained through carbon monoxide conversion, low-temperature methanol washing, methanol synthesis, and methanol distillation. It features high cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion rates, as well as significant energy-saving and emission-reduction effects; however, the localization of key equipment has long been a challenge in the domestic manufacturing sector. At the end of 2008, Xizi Hangguo Group secured the manufacturing contracts for the key equipment of this project, including the first patented device, the gasification furnace, as well as the internal water-cooling walls. During the more than one-year manufacturing process, Hangzhou Boiler overcame numerous technical and process challenges related to the production of end caps, tee joints, and internal components; it also addressed difficulties in areas such as heat treatment, pressing, welding, and the assembly of these internal components. Ultimately, it succeeded in creating the first domestically produced set of internal components for a gasification furnace in China. The device is divided into three sections, with a diameter of 3.85 meters, a length of approximately 31 meters, and a total weight of 560 tons. The design capacity of the first phase of this project is 300,000 tons of methanol per year, generating annual sales revenue of 750 million yuan. The success of localization allows investment costs to be **reduced, which is of great significance for enhancing users’ ability to withstand risks and improving market competitiveness. At the shipment celebration ceremony, this methanol gasifier was hailed as the result of 15 years of research by \"Xi’an Thermal Engineering\" and the culmination of the exquisite manufacturing skills of Hangzhou Boiler workers. Experts proudly praise the successful development of the Shilin gasification furnace, noting that it has enhanced China’s workforce of skilled technicians. It represents another milestone in the country’s efforts to reduce energy consumption and emissions. It is also a significant step in the process of revitalizing the national industry and developing large-scale energy-saving and environmental protection equipment, and it holds great practical significance for promoting the transformation and upgrading of China’s industrial economy. It marks the entry into the implementation phase of China’s dry gas generation furnaces, which possess independent intellectual property rights.
