We have a steam pipeline with the following design parameters: P=3.98 Mpa, T=440℃. Should it be classified as GC1 or GC2 according to pipeline classification standards? According to the new classification standards for pipeline grades, except for pipelines that transport fluid media with a design pressure of P ≥ 10.0 Mpa, or pipelines with a design pressure of P ≥ 4.0 MPa and a design temperature of 400°C or higher (classified as GC1), such pipelines should be classified as GC2 pipelines; I also consider them to be GC2 pipelines. However, some people say that when the temperature is high, it should be classified as a GC1 pipeline. So how exactly is this classification determined?

That’s not right! That is used for evaluating the qualifications of installation companies; the grade classification in the reference materials is outdated.
Flammable and toxic fluids with a design pressure of not less than 4.0 MPa and a temperature of 400°C or higher are classified as GC1; clearly, this does not meet the requirements – it should belong to GC2(2)
