I work in the field of manufacturing, and I joined a branch of a design firm that was established not long ago. Recently, when I asked for my project commission, I was told that it would be paid only after the project was completely finished, that is, after a delay of half a year. My basic salary is just over a thousand yuan, so having the commission delayed by another half year would make it impossible for me to make ends meet. The manager said that this is how commissions are paid in design firms, with the commissions from the head office being paid even a year later. I’ve never worked in a design firm before, so I’m not very familiar with this practice. I’d like to ask those who know more – is it true that commissions in design firms are indeed paid with a delay of half a year to a year? Also, I’ve been working here for seven or eight months, mainly focusing on the design of safety-related components. Initially, a project was divided into five tasks; later, someone from the electrical engineering field was hired, and it was decided that the electrical aspects of the project should be handled by them, thereby taking one of the tasks away from me. Since I used to handle all the electrical-related work myself, I know that such tasks can be completed in at most half a day. But tasks like reviewing the project, consulting experts, finalizing the layout diagrams, and gathering necessary documents are all my responsibilities. On average, it takes at least ten days to complete a project (from receiving the project to submitting it to the safety supervision agency for approval). For projects with complex processes or incomplete information provided by the manufacturers, just preparing the layout or process diagrams can take four or five days. Having one task taken away from me in just half a day makes me feel unfair.
