For the quantification in gas chromatography, some methods do not require a standard curve, such as the internal standard method, the correction factor method, and the peak area normalization method (which is not a strict form of quantification). If the external standard method is used, and the standard samples are reliable with response values within the normal linear response range, single-point correction may be sufficient. The multi-point correction method is used only in the study of certain methods or the analysis of special samples, and it is then that a standard curve is required. Of course, this method of creating a standard curve is a bit more complicated, especially for gas samples – it’s quite difficult to prepare samples in quantitative amounts.
